A Life Sealed for Eternity

He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all. He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony. Whoever receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true. For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure. The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John‬ ‭3:31-36‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

John the Baptist explained that Jesus came down from heaven and speaks about what he has seen and heard from God the Father. His identity as Son of God is not titular because he is above all meaning that Jesus has been given authority over everything. However, many people chose not receive or honor him as God. There are many reasons for doing so, but mainly because they loved living in the comforts of wickedness. I will boldly say that nobody likes to be told that they are living in sin, especially if their lifestyle brings them pride and pleasure.

People who are open to hearing what Jesus says about the Father just inches away from having their life sealed with the eternal riches that God is offering them. A single genuine profession of faith in Jesus is all it takes to become heirs of his kingdom. It sounds far fetched and too mystical because we cannot see what is currently invisible. But I think that is how God wants to stir up authenticity in us.

Do we really love him and his word, or are we only after the rewards? We must first live on this earth managing what is temporary, use our abilities to discipline ourselves, and help build up the church. In doing so, hopefully our devotion to God is borne out of a real love and reverence for him.
