Seek After God

Hezekiah began to reign when he was twenty-five years old…. And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that David his father had done. (2 Chronicles 29:1-2 ESV)

In order to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord, we must first study his word and understand what pleases him. What are his statutes and decrees, and what makes him angry? The Bible is filled with all of that information and much more.

Second, there must be a sincere desire to be with God and to please him. Choosing to do good over evil does not come from within us. That motivation is inspired by the LORD, who is the prime standard of good. So do we make an effort to seek him and engage with him in prayer? Or has something or someone else taken priority?

Establishing a loving relationship with God is our choice. He first loved us even while we are sinners and is waiting for us to come to him (Romans 5:8; Matthew 7:7-11). The good news is that his invitation remains open and he encourages us to come as we are (Matthew 11:28). We do not have to be clean, perfect, and sinless. We just need to take the first step to seek him out.

“You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)

“And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us…” (Acts 17:26-27)
