Birth of a Savior

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger. (Luke‬ ‭2:11-12‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

Signs and wonders are reassurances from God that he is at work. They guide us to Jesus so that we may come to know him on a personal level. Our Mighty Savior entered our world as a baby, showing a gentle and approachable side of our Almighty God. He is not all wrath even though he has every right to be angry. But when he sees his prized creation, men and women who are lost without a shepherd, he is moved with compassion because he knows life can be so much better for them.

Christmas is a reminder of God’s plan to redeem us from the brokenness of this world. He does it in an unassuming way by giving us his Son, Jesus. The Lord is with us and will not abandon us. He is here to change our hearts, to renew our minds, and to heal our spirits. True love and complete joy are divine gifts that no one can give except for him. So yes, let us celebrate his birth. Let us give him honor just as the wise men did. And let us stand in awe like the shepherds who first saw him in lying in the manger. Our Savior was born and fulfilled his purpose for our benefit and God’s glory.
