I must perform my vows to you, O God; I will render thank offerings to you. For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life. (Psalm 56:12-13 ESV)
God released the grip of death on the souls of believers so that they may walk in his light of life forever. If a man is not moved by this divine gesture, then he doesn’t fully understand what the Lord has done for him. It is unlikely that he is ignorant of the truth of the gospel. He would rather live in darkness because he prospers with wickedness. Little does he know that his judgment day will arrive swiftly and unexpectedly. One day all may seem well, and then shortly after, his soul is demanded of him. What good is success and wealth when neither cannot extend your life for one more hour? When your body dies, that would be the end of it, and the consequence of hell will not be withheld.
Believers in Christ understand this truth. It is not that they have been scared into believing in Jesus. They have actually seen the goodness of God showered over them in the form of blessings, love, healing, and enlightenment. Their hearts were transformed because the Lord intervened in such a way that radically change their lives for the better. Their encounter was unique only to them and nothing would stop them from fulfilling their vows to God and giving him thanks. I pray that more people would have a life changing experience like this because it really is a matter of eternal life or death.
