Rejoice in the Lord

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand. (Philippians 4:4-5 ESV)

Take heart. Be of good cheer. Smile and be joyful because the Lord is with you! Yes, life is messy right now, but God will restore everything back to goodness. Just you wait and see what Jesus does when he returns! He promises to make all things new, to wipe away tears, and to make his dwelling place with us where there would be no more sadness, pain, or death (Revelation 21:1-6).

I imagine that deserts will flourish with trees and wildlife. The weather would be perfect and the colors we see more vibrant. The music we hear from heaven will be streamed with the most beautiful melodies that have ever touched our ears. Our bodies will be youthful and our eyes will be able to see the face of God and the legions of angels that serve him. I also believe there will be a love and peace that we have never felt before because they flow from Jesus, his words, his touch, and the delight he expresses when he embraces us. Perhaps we will be able to see the Holy Spirit; the Trinity will no longer be a mystery because everything will make sense.

I sometimes joke that retirement would be great when I no longer have to work, pay a mortgage, and race to meet deadlines. And in some sense, that is what I imagine what heaven would be like. Our burdens would be much lighter because our work will have a different meaning. We don’t need to earn a living because the Lord is sustaining us. Instead, our labor may be more joyful because it is all done for God, who will receive constant thanks and praises from his children. There will never be a dull moment in his presence. What do you think heaven would be like for you? Use your imagine and dream today! Rejoice because God will exceed all your expectations!
