Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. (Matthew 5:6 ESV)
The righteousness of Jesus will fully satisfy our souls because we know that he has the power to calm our storms and provide all our needs. One day, we won’t have to compete for limited resources because God is the source of our supply. What more could we ever want when have everything in him?
For a short while, we are going to be stressed and stretched to our limits. We suffer because we experience pain, and we know what it feels like to be pain free. We are hopeful that things will get better, but often that future seems too distant. And sometimes we feel ready to leave this world because we are frustrated with our decadent society. Moral fatigue becomes our chief discourager and the devil strikes to keep us down. When we feel a sense of despair, our soul yearns for God’s righteousness to take over.
We want to be with Jesus because he makes things better, and he makes us feel better. The four Gospels of the Bible have recorded his words and miracles so we can be properly introduced to him. And when we finally declare him as our Lord, he embraces us and keeps us forever.
“Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it. I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation” (Psalm 118:19-21).
