And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” (Mark 10:36 ESV)
So often we pray for healing, deliverance, protection, and provision. But what would you specifically ask Jesus to do for you? And would you be so bold to request anything more? I don’t think the Lord placed a limit on what we can ask of him.
Sometimes we pray, “Lord, can you please just do this one thing?” It’s as if we are hesitant to petition for additional blessings. Honestly, would you be completely satisfied with receiving only one answer to prayer? I know I wouldn’t be! Didn’t Jesus say, “How much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him?” So why should do we hesitate? God takes pleasure in blessing his children, let alone having them come to him.
Think about it. If we are going to spend eternity with God, we better get used to having lengthy conversations with him, and we might as well go big on our prayer requests. The worst thing that could happen is that he says, “No.” But what if he actually said, “Okay. I will do that for you?” And what if he granted you a series of blessings? Wouldn’t that excite you and compel you to tell everyone about what he’s doing? Would your faith be smoldered, or would it be a raging fire?
Now that I am thinking about it, I should just start making a long list of prayer requests. After all, the Lord did give us imagination. So why not put it to good use and see what happens?
