Be a minister of goodness

And [the angel] said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.” “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” ‭‭(Revelation‬ ‭22:10-13‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

An angel told John that the world must continue in its current state for a while where the dynamics between good and evil remain in a state of flux . God allows this to happen because he is patiently waiting for people to acknowledge that they need him. When the full number of hearts surrendering to him is complete, then he will tell the entire world that it’s time to eradicate evil so that it no longer coexists with good.

Jesus assures us that he will be coming back soon and “recompense” everyone for everything they have done. The good will be rewarded and evil will be punished. The anticipation of his second coming is engraved into our hearts and we excitingly look forward to his return.

For now we are to expect that things will get worse before they get better. Therefore, we must continue “do right” and “be holy” because it pleases the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We are to be advertisements of God’s love and favor, messengers of the gospel, and ministers of goodness.

It’s not always easy to live this way, but it’s the struggle that strengthens our faith as we press on to complete the tasks that God has given to us: raising families, contributing to society with honest work, equipping the saints, and caring for people in their afflictions. As long as the Lord continues to put breath in my lungs, then I know there is more work to be done.
