Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalm 103:1-5 ESV)
To bless the Lord is to praise and glorify him with every fiber of my being. When I read his word, he reminds me of all that is possible with him. He lists his promises and follows through for the sake of his name. Every miracle has his fingerprint, building up our faith and reassuring us that our hope in him is not in vain.
To be crowned with God’s steadfast love is to be constantly aware of him and continuously ready to receive his encouragements and instruction. Do thoughts of the Father occupy your mind? Do you speak with him and make known your desires? Or what about thanking him for who he is and what he has done for you? Do you confess your sins daily, not as an religious exercise, but as a pursuit of holiness? What would you do or give up just to be closer to Jesus? How much honor will you offer him with the time he has given you?
I heard today that we should be the happiest people because we know that we are bound for heaven. So lift up your hands and sing to the Lord with all the joy contained in your soul. It is your heartfelt worship that blesses God.
