And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. (Matthew 8:23-27 ESV)
Following Jesus does not exempt us from life’s storms and hardships. There will be troubles in this world because it’s broken and we must endure it for a while. While these crises may seem to be endless, we must remember that Jesus has command over them. Whether they ravage the physical environment or create turmoil within and amongst ourselves, he reassures us that here is no storm mightier God.
Would you be more trusting of Jesus if you actually witnessed this miracle? What would you turn over to him that would calm you and give you peace? Whatever it is, he is Lord of that, too.
