So in the morning his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was none who could interpret them to Pharaoh.
And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” Joseph answered Pharaoh, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.” (Genesis 41:8, 15-16 ESV)
Have you ever had an issue that you tried to resolve on your own but failed? So you then ask for others to help and then you fail again? This is exactly what happened to Pharaoh. All the wisest men in Egypt could not help him. So he turns to Joseph after hearing that he possessed some special power.
However, he did not have any supernatural ability. In fact, he did not even offer an opinion of Pharaoh’s dreams. He just plainly stated, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer.” This was a no-nonsense approach where his faith overrode intellectual reasoning. Joseph knew that all the sciences, philosophies, and creative arts originate with God, and that in this very instance, the Almighty will reveal a small sliver of his immeasurable knowledge and infinite wisdom.
If a problem seems to be taxing, time-consuming, or impossible, I can rest assured that our Lord will have an answer for me. If it is a God-sized problem, then I shall take comfort in knowing that the solution and outcome is not up to me. I will strive hard to not allow circumstances to shake my faith; instead, I will turn to the Lord to strengthen it.
