Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.”(Matthew 6:9 ESV)
The order of prayer is to commune with God first before making any requests. It’s a serious discipline and privilege to speak and hear from God himself. There are occasions when I treat it like an exercise and do not fully appreciate the value of having all access to God. Reciting words without sincerity is heartless and faithless.
Lord, forgive me for not always treating these moments with you seriously and for not enjoying your presence because I am distracted. Help me focus on who you are and to continue treasuring the quiet mornings with you. Every care and thought is turned over to you because I really want a meaningful and closer connection with you. Help me hear your voice and help me understand the wisdom found in your written word. Just like King David, please make me “glad with the joy of your presence” (Psalm 21:6).
